Making Due

My "recovery" is going better than what happened to the Red Sox and, to a lesser extent, the Braves last night. Which is to say it's shitty, just not as shitty as what happened to those teams. The other similarity that I'm forced to admit that we brought our malaise onto ourselves. I didn't pay attention to the signals that trouble was a-brewin'. The Red Sox didn't pay attention to that humbling force called hubris. And the Braves didn't pay attention to their young pitchers' innings pitched. In sum, we are all in our respective predicaments for a reason.

Anyway, the other problem in my neck of the woods is that I injured my wrist on Monday in the weight room. This has forced me to miss one day of weight training this week (Wednesday), but also had the added effect of forcing me to get back on the weight training of the legs kick. I'm throwing caution to the wind and will find out what this will do to my groin/lower ab ailment. I'm secretly hoping that this helps.

I am starting very (VERY!!!!) conservatively, mind you. And even so, my legs are sore after two workouts (Tuesday, Thursday). Tomorrow might be another off day, which I despise, but I need to rest this wrist as I am still holding out hope that I will be able to play golf on Saturday.

Reports on my exploits at the tournament might find their way onto this here blog if I self-destruct spectacularly, or figure out a way to play this silly game and actually do well.

Option 1 seems more likely to happen. I'm planning on being 9 shots up with 3 holes to play and still lose in honour of the Red Sox.

Prognosis Negative

I can't think of the title of this post without the Seinfeld episode from which it is taken, but that's neither here nor there. What is here is continued pain the groin/lower ab region of yours truly. What is there is three seemingly negative test results.

From the doctor's point of view the fact that my x-ray and two ultrasound images came back with, and I quote, "nothing out of the ordinary" is a good thing.

From my point of view, and I quote, "WTF?!"

Do I take this to mean that "ordinary" for me is a state of constant pain and discomfort with no end in sight and definitely no running? If that's "ordiary" I'll take anything but at this point. I cannot F'n believe that nothing shows up!!!

Aarrrgggggghhhhhhhh......

And lastly, just to add to the misery, I hurt my wrist at the gym today. Hope it's not serious as I am to play my annual one and only round of golf this coming Saturday.

Better Write SOMETHING, I Guess

Man, I've neglected this blog so much since my injury has resigned me to the sidelines (and upper body weight training) that I almost forgot both my user name AND password for Blogger. WTF?! It's my groin/lower abs that are injured, not my brain. Perhaps I had them x-ray and ultrasound the wrong part of my anatomy after all...

So, that last sentence is called "foreshadowing". In case you don't know what that means, you should now be thinking to yourself, "I think there was some imaging taking place in Wonky Ankle land." Indeed, you'd be right. After much trouble with my GP (who has out of nowhere grown a huge ego and caused him to deny any and all of my requests to figure out exactly what the Hell is wrong), I succeeded in seeing a sympathetic Physio, who sent me to a sympathetic Doctor, who actually checked me out rather than just prescribe me drugs based on my words alone, and gave me a requisition for x-rays and ultrasound imaging. I don't have the results yet, and to be honest I am not expecting them to reveal much, but at least that's the step that my jerk GP wouldn't take to find the source of what ails me.

The general area of the pain made the ultrasound sessions (there were two thanks to the flunky receptionist who didn't read the requisition form correctly and booked me for just one the first time) rather embarrassing. Let's just say that cold goop in the nether regions is not my idea of fun.

Anyway, there it is. And now not only have I updated my blog, but I've also reacquainted myself with my Blogger credentials.

Happy Day!

Twiddling My Thumbs

Holy crap! It's been over a month and I haven't posted a single thing. Well, as you can well imagine, the reason is simple: no running, nothing to post. My groin injury seems to be worse than even I'd anticipated and I am still very much suffering the effects. I've been diligently working out in the weight room (sans legs) and sprinkling in rowing machine and indoor cycling workouts as much as possible. The most frustrating part, since I've long ago gotten over the disappointment of not being able to run, is the fact that I can't work on my leg strength at all. My biggest weakness is just getting worse as I wait for this stupid injury to go away.

But waiting is simply not working. So, tomorrow afternoon I am seeing my physio for the first time in over two years to get to the root of the problem. I'm also seeing my GP to rule out any other issues that may be hindering my body's ability to repair itself.

Other than that, it's all upper body all the time, and at least I'm getting stronger. The whole body fat percentage thing I let slip over my holidays in August, but I'm getting back on that wagon and am still well under 10% for what it's worth.

Here's hoping my next post is not sometime in October...
